Brooksville, Fla. – Hernando County firefighters will see pay increases and new certification standards after county commissioners voted to approve a new union contract this week.
The agreement between the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and IAFF Local 3760 provides a 3% wage increase and updates training requirements for paramedics.
Commissioners praised the deal as a fair compromise that supports public safety while balancing taxpayer interests. “This contract recognizes the hard work of our firefighters and ensures the county remains prepared for emergencies,” one official said.
Firefighters welcomed the vote, noting that staffing demands and rising call volumes have made the need for better compensation and training more urgent.
The agreement comes at a time when many counties across Florida are struggling to recruit and retain emergency personnel.
