The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office announced that the suspect, a volunteer leader at VineLife Church, faces 35 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material after a lengthy investigation. Authorities say they also discovered a child-like sex doll in his home.

According to investigators, the man admitted to using an online platform linked to the material. Deputies say none of the images appear to involve children from the church congregation, though they are still combing through digital evidence to rule out any local victims.

Church response

VineLife Church said in a statement that the individual has been removed from all positions of responsibility and that the congregation is “heartbroken and shocked.” Leaders emphasized they are fully cooperating with law enforcement and have offered support services to families affected by the news.

Broader concerns

The arrest has reignited concerns about background checks and safeguards in youth programs. Experts say that while churches and nonprofits typically screen volunteers, digital crimes can go undetected until law enforcement intervenes.

The suspect remains in custody as prosecutors prepare formal charges. Bond has not yet been announced.

“This is a reminder for parents to stay vigilant, even in spaces they believe to be safe,” said Dr. Lisa Torres, a child protection advocate.

Authorities ask anyone with information on this case to contact the Hernando County Crime Stoppers at (866) 990-8477.
