Brooksville, Florida — A violent confrontation at a Florida motel has left one man fighting for his life after being stabbed in the neck with a broken salsa bottle, authorities say.
Deputies from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office were called to the motel late Monday night following reports of a disturbance. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from what officials described as a “very severe” neck wound.
Witnesses told deputies that an argument between two men escalated quickly, ending when one used a glass salsa bottle as a weapon. The suspect fled the scene but was later taken into custody.
The victim was rushed to a nearby trauma center and remains in critical condition. His name has not yet been released.
Violent crime in Hernando County has been a concern for local residents, though sheriff’s office data shows overall crime rates remain lower than in neighboring urban counties.
“This was a brutal and sudden act of violence,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson told station WTVT. “We are grateful to the witnesses who provided quick information that helped us track down the suspect.”
