BROOKSVILLE – The Hernando County Board of County Commissioners will hold its final public hearing to adopt the 2025–2026 fiscal year millage rates and county budget on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 5:01 p.m. The meeting will take place in the John Law Ayers Room of the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N. Main Street, Brooksville.
This annual process determines how taxpayer dollars will be distributed across essential county services, including public safety, parks, infrastructure, and social programs. The budget decisions will directly shape how the county addresses pressing community needs such as housing affordability, road maintenance, and emergency preparedness.
While millage rates—the property tax rates used to fund local government—are expected to remain a major point of discussion, advocates for stronger community investment are urging commissioners to prioritize services that benefit working families, seniors, and veterans. In past budget cycles, debates have often centered around balancing fiscal conservatism with the demand for improved services and infrastructure in a rapidly growing county.
The hearing is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to participate either by attending in person or by watching a live stream at www.HernandoCounty.us/WatchNow. Public comment will be allowed, giving residents a direct opportunity to voice their concerns about spending priorities.
County leaders have stressed the importance of transparency and civic engagement in the budget process. With Hernando County facing continued growth and the challenges that come with it, this year’s budget will play a crucial role in shaping the community’s future.
The Board is expected to vote on both the final millage rate and the comprehensive budget following public input.
